JSS 3 FIRST TERM CCA SCHEME OF WORK

Topic: NIGERIAN TRADITIONAL ARTS AND CULTURE

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

-explain Nigerian traditional arts.

-state Nigerian traditional arts origin, period, date, location/ site of excavations.

-explain Nigerian arts characteristics.

-identify media and styles used in producing Nigerian traditional arts.

Learning Activities:                                                                                                 

i.Students as a class watch a video clip of selected Nigerian traditional arts.

ii.The whole class discusses traditional Nigerian arts

iii.Students in small groups obtain and exhibit pictures of traditional arts.

iii.Students  pair up to   appreciate  the  artworks and discuss  the impacts of traditional arts and culture on the Nigerian society.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

-explain Music composition.

– outline and apply music composition rules and techniques.

i.Students as a class: discuss music composition.

ii.Students in small groups watch a model compose some lines of  music.

ii.Students in small groups  apply the rules and techniques to compose  a melodic line following their models.

Topic: PREPARATION OF ARTWORKS FOR EXHIBITION

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

– mount a two dimensional artwork.

-construct a frame for a two dimensional art work.

-construct a pedestal for a three dimensional artwork.

-design and manage space of an exhibition hall.

-identify sources of fund for both artwork and exhibition.

Learning Activities:

i.Students in small groups construct frames  for two dimensional art works.

ii. The whole class mounts  works on the frame constructed.

ii. The whole class constructs  a pedestal for holding art works.

Topic: MUSIC COMPOSITION (SETTING OF WORDS)

– insert bar lines and fix appropriate time signatures.

– clap to the rhythm observing the time values.

ii.Students  as a class set words to music with time signatures and insert bar lines to group the notes.

iii.Students in small groups. practise their compositions and correct errors where necessary.
