Leads the pupils to define Social Studies as the integral part of life of all creatures of God.

The pupils carefully state the meaning of Social Studies as the study of man and his environment.

TOPIC: Social Studies to man and his physical environment.

CONTENT

Reasons for Social and Physical environment of mans

TEACHER ACTIVITIES

The teacher leads pupils to understanding the physical and social environment of all human. Such as seas, forest, mountains, valley with or to human influence on it.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

The pupils carefully analyses the physical

environment to man in its social formation. How man influences its physical to meets all his social needs and comfort.   

WEEK 3

TOPIC : Human influence on its both Physical and Social Environment

CONTENT

Reasons why we influence our social and physical environment.

TEACHER ACTIVITIES

The teacher guides pupils to state why we need to influence our social and physical environment to achieve an habitable goals.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

The pupils are guided too to saying how they have influence their immediate environment socially and otherwise.

The teacher guides pupils to learn how men influence their environment:

The teacher allows pupils to define family and state the type types of family they have.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

The pupils try to define family as a small unit of people living together for a common purpose.

TOPIC : Family tree

CONTENT

The types of family tree

TEACHER ACTIVITIES

The teacher allows pupils to understanding that we can make a tree of the type of family we have Nuclear and Extended family

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

The pupils help to contribute to the making of family trees in the nuclear and extend family and state their importance in Social Studies

TOPIC : The roles of members in the family.

Roles of members in the Nuclear and Extended family.

The teacher allows pupils to state the roles of family members in their togetherness.

The pupils state the roles of the members of the family in their togetherness

TOPIC: The Advantages and disadvantages of Nuclear family to Extended family.

Advantages and disadvantages of nuclear family to extended family.

The teacher allows pupils to discuss what differences we see in a nuclear family from the extended family.

They discuss the differences in the families and compare with its similarity.

The teacher guides pupils to state the good qualities of a good home and extended family.

The pupils state some good qualities of a good family and why it should be encouraged for our country.

Living together as a family in an harmonious environment

The teacher allows pupils to state how important it is to live in joy, peace and cordiality of heart in the family

The teacher guides pupils to state some useful reputation of members of their family and how to encourage good ones and discourage the bad ones.

The pupils discuss on some forms of reputation – behaviours in the family that entails emulation and encouragement for the family at large.

TOPIC: Identification of both modern and traditional drugs used.

CONTENT

The specification of drugs used by people from place to place. The modern drugs are the authorised and acceptable one.

Organizes guide class discussion on both modern and traditional drugs.

Cases/stories on the modern and traditional drugs.

TOPIC : Common abused drugs in our community.

CONTENT

Commonly abused drugs: Drugs: cannabis, hemp, ganja, igbo etc.

TOPIC : Ways to Identify persons who have abused drugs

CONTENT

Ways of helping someone who has abused

drugs/medicine e.g. reporting any change of behaviour to parents, teachers other adults.

TEACHER ACTIVITIES

Teacher invites resource persons to give talk on how to help someone who has abused

drugs/medicine.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

Dramatize caring for people who have abused

drugs/medicine

WEEK 8

TOPIC : Way to identify someone who has abused drugs

CONTENT

Seeking medical attention e.g. counsellors, psychiatric hospitals etc.

TOPIC :  Meaning of accident and types of accident.

CONTENT

Meaning of accident sudden happening that occurs to a person, road, air, rail etc.

TEACHER ACTIVITIES

Ask pupils to explain the differences in various forms of accidents.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

Express how they feel when they come in contact with hot metals.

WEEK 10

TOPIC: List other forms of accident and their causes.

CONTENT

Meaning and types of accidents: -Roads, air, water, rail, fire, hot water etc. which can cause physical injuries such as burns, scalds, bruises and sometimes death.

TEACHER ACTIVITIES

1.Lead pupils to discuss the meaning, forms and causes of accident.

2.Asks pupils to explain the differences in the various forms of accidents.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

Participate in the discussion on the meaning, forms and causes of accidents.

WEEK  11

TOPIC: Explain types of First Aid treatment to be given to victims of burns scalds bodies and road accidents

CONTENT

The first aid treatment: Burns and scald do not torch the affected area, cover the affected part with clean cloth, take him/her to hospital. Bruises. Put ice block in a towel and place it on the surface of the bruise.

TEACHER ACTIVITIES

Demonstrate how administer first aid treatment on victims of burns, scald, bruises and road accidents.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

Watch teachers’ demonstration and practicalize first and treatment following the teacher’s demonstration in groups.

WEEK  12

TOPIC : Describe some of the different kinds of positive attitude to accident victims

CONTENT

Positive attitudes to accident and accident victims. Being more careful.

-Avoid rough play

Prompt attention. – Show of concern

-Reporting to the right agencies -Take victims to hospital/clinic etc.

TEACHER ACTIVITIES     

Guide pupils to not play, identify and discuss positive attitudes to accident and accident victims

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

Role play accident scenes and use such activities to identify positive attitude to accident and accident victims
