CHILDHOOD DISEASES, AILMENT AND PREVENTION

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

PARENT & CAREGIVER

  1. Recongnise and state difference childhood illnesses e.g. tetanus,  polio, diphtheria tetanus, whooping cough, tuberculosis, diarrhea, malaria, yellow fever, convulsion coughs, cold worm infections, acute respiratory  infections, eye diseases, skin diseases, sickle cell, typhoid fever, anemia.
  2. Mention their symptoms and preventive measures.
  3. Refer sick children ) to appropriate health facility  centre
  4. prepare and administer  ORT/SS solution when necessary .
  5. Manage common childhood illnesses
  6. Quarantine the child with  disease from others
  7. Ensure that the environment is clean and safe
  8. Prepare and differ complimentary food for sick children)
  9. Advise parents to keep sick children  at home 
  10. Control the spread of  communicable diseases
  11. Report Fist aid treatment  administered to parents of sick child

PERSONAL HYGIENE (care of the body)

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

PARENT & CAREGIVER

  1. Care for the different parts of the body e.g.head, eyes, mouth, ears hand/toes nails teeth, legs, skin, armpit, anus genitals etc..
  2. Use available cleansing materials for babies and  young child appropriately and regularly.
  3. Attend baby  care training sessions whenever available
  4. Discuss consequences of neglecting care of the body
  5. Child to take bath regularly
  6. Observe adequate care while cleaning different parts of the body.
  7. Discuss oral hygiene

Note: No child abuse practices 

  •   Demonstrate proper  cleaning/ brushing of teeth and other parts of the body
  • Check fingers  and toe  nails
  • Recite rhymes and sing songs relevant to personal hygiene.

PERSONAL HYGIENE II(Toilet  Habits)

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

PARENT & CAREGIVER

  1. Provide appropriate toilet facilities
  2. Describe good toilet  habits
  3. Give children proper toilet training
  4. Avoid child abuse during toilet  training
  5. Recognize signs/signals when a child need  to use the toilet
  6. Clean or assist the child after the use of toilet.

Note: No child abuse practices 

CHILD

  1. Identify the proper  place for toileting (potty)
  2. Say when there is need to go to toilet.
  3. Urinate or pass stool in the proper place e.g.potty or specified area.
  4. Attempt cleaning up after the use of toilet
  5. Wash hands after the use of toilet

ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

PARENT & CAREGIVER

  1. Recognize the needs  of orphans and vulnerable, children e.g. food, cloth shelter, love, warmth, water etc.
  2. Take care of the needs of the orphans and vulnerable children inclusive.
  3. Providing  appropriate counseling and giving psychosocial support
  4. Provide materials for the orphans and vulnerable children e.g. shoes, clothes food drinks, love etc.
  5. Raise awareness in communities to create an enabling environment for the children.
  6. Strengthen the coping capacities of families and communities.
  7. Support sustainable communication initiatives to reduce stigma and discrimination
  8. Support the government’s policies that protect the most vulnerable children
