THEME 1: ARTS AND CRAFTS

Week 1

Topic:    Introduction to Nature drawing.              

Performance objectives

  1. Describe their environment.
  2. List the things in their environment.
  3. Care for their environment.
  4. Draw things observed within the environment.

Contents

  1. Meaning of Environment.
  2. Things found in the environment e.g. trees, grasses, road, animals, etc.
  3. Care of the environment.

Teacher’s Activities        

  1. Explains the meaning of the environment.
  2. Displays picture of a clean environment
  3. Lists things found in the environment.
  4. Explains how to care for the environment

Student’s Activities

  1. Listen and observe picture of a clean environment
  2. Identify things found in the environment.
  3. Listen to explanation on how to care for the environment.

Teaching & Learning Material  

  1. Picture of the environment, trees, grasses, roads, animals Flowers, Pencils, and Colors.

Evaluation Guide

  1. List things in the environment.
  2. Draw and color few things found in a clean environment.

Week 2

Topic: Types of Flowering Plants.     

Performance objectives

  1. Identify flowering plants.
  2. draw and color flowers

Contents

  1. Flowering plants in the environment.
    1. Designing and coloring flowering plants.

Teacher’s Activities

  1. Shows examples of flowers in the environment.
  2. Demonstrates how to draw and color diagram of a flower on the Board.

Student’s Activities

  1. Observe diagrams, pictures, and real flowers.
  2. Draw and color a flower.

Teaching & Learning Material  

  1. Diagrams, pictures, real flowers, chalks, boards, drawing books, pencils and colors.

Evaluation Guide

  1. Draw one flower of their choice.
  2. Color the drawn flower.

Week 3

Topic: Use of Lines in Designs.

Performance objectives

  1. Identify different types of lines.
  2. Use lines in simple designs.

Contents

  1. Types of lines:

i). Zigzag,

ii). curved lines,

iii). Straight lines,

iv). Broken lines

  • Using lines in designs.

Teacher’s Activities

  1. Explains different types of lines with the aid of diagrams.
  2. Demonstrates how to use lines in designs.
  3. Displays Pupils‟ finished works.

Student’s Activities

  1. Listen and observe demonstration on how to use lines in designs.
  2. Draw lines to create designs.

Teaching & Learning Material  

  1. Cardboard papers, markers, drawing books, pencils, colors.

Evaluation Guide

  1. Identify two types of lines.
  2. Use lines to produce 2 simple designs.
  3. Apply colors to the designs.

Week 4

Topic: Methods of modelling objects with clay/Plastering

Performance objectives

  1. identify methods of modelling e.g. pinching and coiling
  2. mold objects with clay/Plaster cine

Contents

  1. Modelling of objects e.g. cups, pots, etc with clay/Plastering using:
  2. Pinching method
  3. Coiling method splaying of finished works.

Teacher’s Activities

  1. Explains the methods of modelling.
  2. Demonstrates the:

 i). Pinching method

 ii). Coiling method.        

Student’s Activities

  1. Listen to teacher’s explanation on methods of modelling.
  2. Observe teacher’s demonstration on how to use pinching and coiling methods to produce models.

Teaching & Learning Material  

  1. Clay/Plaster cine, wooden boards, spatulas, blunt knives, string, water, molds

Evaluation Guide

  1. Use any of the two methods to mold an object for display.

THEME 2: PERFORMING ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Week 1

Topic: Creating a drama sketch from a story or folk tale.

Performance objectives

  1. create a drama sketch from the story line of a given story or folk tale

Contents

  1. Play creation through scripting or improvisation with any of the following themes: Team working Patriotism, Unity, Courtesy, Dignity of labor, etc.

Teacher’s Activities        

  1. Explains the meaning of play creating.
  2. Explains the process of play creating.
  3. Explains the concepts of scripting and improvisation.
  4. Leads pupils to start a play creating process.
  5. Plays a video of a play involving children as actors

Student’s Activities

  1. Listen to the explanation by the teacher.
  2. Participate in the play creating process.
  3. Watch a video of children’s play

Teaching & Learning Material  

  1. Textbooks Notebooks Pencils Cleaners. DVDs or VCDs Television.

Evaluation Guide

  1. Create an improvised play based on the storyline of a given story with any one of the stated themes.

Week 2

Topic: STAGING   

Performance objectives

1              identify staging requirements of a play/drama.

2              state the different stages of a play production process.

Contents

1              Introduction to staging of a play.

2              Stages of play production.

Teacher’s Activities        

1              Explains the requirements of a play production.

2              Discusses the processes involved in play production.

Student’s Activities

  1. Listen to teacher’s explanation.
    1. Identify requirements of a play production.
    1. Identify the processes of staging a play.

Teaching & Learning Material  

  1. Text books         
  2. Note books.
  3. Chalkboard etc.

Evaluation Guide

  1. Identify four play staging requirements.
  2. Identify three stages of a play production.

THEME 3: CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS

Week 1

Topic: Traditional Fabrics and Dresses. 

Performance objectives

  1. Identify traditional fabrics from different parts of Nigeria.
  2. Identify traditional Nigerian dresses.
  3. Draw traditional fabrics and dresses.
  4. Mention the importance of traditional dresses to the nation.

  1. Traditional Fabrics:

iii).          ” Akwete”

iv).          “Saki”

“Parmala”

  • Traditional Dresses:

i). “Onyonyo”

ii). “Buba and IRO”

iii). “Sokoto”,

  • Importance of traditional dresses to the nation.

  2. Types of traditional fashion accessories e.g. Beaded Jewelries, Corals, Combs, Walking sticks, Rattles for dancers, shells, Cowries
