It should be noted that months 1 -3 module is to be treated for babies taken in by 3 months, before the class attendant proceeds to the third months module work, on the curriculum.

  Period is shared between month 1 and month 18.

PERIOD

MONTHS 1

EXERCISE

  • Test on olfactory Sense. i.e: Sense of Smell. Showing parts of the human nose during activities and the sense of taste activity. Explain that the tongue is the agent of test, while the nose is the agent for smells.

PROCEDURE

  • For olfactory sense, get flowers that have despicable aroma. For the sense of taste; get apparatus (salt, sugar, lime fruit, bitter leaf. Squeezed out liquid) and water. For each child, give a part of the ingredients of the apparatus to taste, after mouth rinsing –with water. Taste, water cleaning the tongue with a wet foam

MONTHS 2

EXERCISE

Circular movements and sitting positions. Circle time on clapping of hands (low/high), (hard/soft) to rhythms of song/sound. Sensorial exercise (with use of House of shapes, building blocks, etc

 

PROCEDURE

  • Using long red rods, ropes, chalk marks, etc. practice; while the children follow the illustrations. Cognitive reasoning works (using materials) should be set for matching sizes, exercises/ordering

MONTH 3

EXERCISE

  • Practical Life Exercise (touching major parts of the body, using rhymes/Barney activity songs) e.g. touching of the head-with the help of the many, each child should stretch their hands and different positions.
  • Dancing /movement in a circular form, using the rhyme, round and round the village. Looking into a mirror, following the topic ‘Me’

 

PROCEDURE

  • Male and female dolls can be used. Charts can be used
  • Real parts of the body the children can be identified with the help of a nanny. They learn to line up before dancing.
  • The identify circle, before following a circular pattern, drawn on the floor.
  • Allow each child identify himself on a mirror following a picture

MONTH 4

EXERCISE

Understanding with the sense of touch

Visit the zoo with a friend, parent, school officials on excursion  

 

PROCEDURE

The animal farm can be used

Forest: Animal (plastics) can be used to disseminate post information about the zoo

Month 5

EXERCISE

Blinking of the eyes (with eye lid; and lashes; darkness is experience when eyes are closed, while bright signs is noticed when eyes are open.

PROCEDURE

Practically carry out this with teach child; while asking what the child experience at the time illustrate affection or love.

  • Demonstrations from visuals  interpreting what you see by action)

PROCEDURE

  • Barney videos and activities, etc. be used. Teachers can act what they visualize in stories.

·         Walking exercise for children beyond the crawling stage  

PROCEDURE

  • Place an object on the floor they are to jump over. Hard, soft, low and high claps should be carried out

  • Repetitions  and practical actions should follow

  • Enhance listening skills actions –kicking, rolling on the floor and jumping on a bouncer.

  • Walking on walkers / following gentle footsteps on nannies with support. Firm hold of objects

PROCEDURE

  • Snapshots can be taken when babies have achieved at least one third of the tasks given above; including these: salt, sugar, lime, grounded bitter leaf /kola. They should be given at alternate times as water is given to each child after each taste of the above.

  • Higher level of olfactory sense ; sense of taste, touch, listening skills through re-enforcement

  • Each child repeats heard speech or song. Tis could encourage listening and speech skills

·    Loud repetitions of instruction by the teacher or nanny to ease hearing aid and speech

  • Story telling with loud verbal expressions and gesturing to represent characters

  • This  introduces picture reading as children would be willing to tell the same stories told; but in an unorganized manner

· Speech: skills and hearing ability are to be enhance, based on degree of obedience of the child concerned in carrying out the duties

PROCEDURE

  • Instructions should be given to each child , response to instruction (obedience) may differ in the speed of carrying each out; from child to child

· Reacts to increasing number of words within a period (needs the patience of the attendant) 

PROCEDURE

  • Some toddlers may say too many things all at the same time. Some may be slow to speech. Individual names must be known by their teachers as they call each child to be corrected.

· Revision of all previous works to prepare for reception class

PROCEDURE

  • Test: exercises are carried out for muscular capabilities/cognitive balancing by giving them three Montessori materials to work with. One material at a time. Pink towers, broad brown stairs, long red rods. 

Balancing: this is by checking the performance of each child, using three Montessori materials to work with; one material at a time.
